Saw the article on Yahoo Finance, stole it and put it in larger print with no ads
dancing around or sounds playing. My copy is HERE.

I'm probably going to sign up with Ally Bank, the top all around online choice.
Looks like a lot better deal than our brick and mortar bank. (no safety deposit
box though).

Update on this, we now have our account set up at Ally Bank. It's taken
awhile.

  • Signed up online - pretty easy, ordered free checks and deposit slips
  • Got out welcome kit with deposit slips, postage paid envelopes, sent in money
  • Waited, were notified by email that our check had been received.
  • Waited 5 business day until the check cleared and the money was listed available
  • Got our debit cards and pins, called to activate, wouldn't take it, said the call had
to come from the number on our account. I added the magic jack number as a
business number but finally had to call. Ma started, stumbled, handed off to me and
I talked through and got mine set with the phone number, called, got activated.
Called ma's, nope. Our accounts are seperate even though only the one checking
account at this time. Ma, dialed, I started out, stumbled, they wanted to talk to her.
Ma got hers set up to fix the next day, still hasn't activated.
  • Got our checks today

Got our power bill today also, gonna try and set it up. Asked Ma where the bill was,
she ignored me but I found it. Got the following with a magnifying glass (small pale
writing)

Progress Energy

Make payments easier:

*ebill: view and pay your electric bill online-it's free, fast, and secure.

*Budget Bill: take the peaks and valleys out of your residential electric bill
*Automatic Draft: save time and postage by having your payments automatically drafted from your bank account each month

*EasyPay: make a payment via credit card, debit card, or electronic check at https://pef.easypayfast.com or by calling 1-866-374-5376 This service is available 24/7 and includes a convenience charge by a third party vendor

*Electronic Check: when you mail us a check as payment, you authorize us to convert your check into a one-time electronic check payment or to process the check as a check image
