I read this article last Thursday morning and looked into it pretty deep and told
Helen and she was amenable so I signed us up with $0.00 balance. Got our kit
today, just had one deposit slip with the signature cards. I ordered checks and
deposit slips but don't know when they'll get here. No charge of course.

Checking pays 0.5% interest. A real bank, FDIC and all. I may sign up for their
Bill Pay and do everything online there. We'll send in a small deposit Monday
and I'll get started after it gets there. Probably move more money there later
after we're sure. Debit card I'll probably have Helen switch to.

Doesn't look too bad, they had a screen with the link I'd seen before
probably where I would have tried first anyway.

Already have an Ally account?

Step 1: Log in to Ally Online Banking.

Step 2: Set up the bills you want to pay.

Step 3: Decide what to do with all that free time.

The info page

First Online Bill Pay! Didn't take over 45 minutes.
Helen sent in the Comcast bill herself so I missed that but I just set it up
to pay my credit card bill on November 2, 2011, 6 days before it was due to
let me check and make sure it was paid. (If I don't forget). Pretty sure it'll
work fine though.

I already had a folder named Ally in Honey's Dropbox on my machine and
made a folder inside that named BillPay and put a copy of what I'd done.
Need to keep records still since it comes out of "our" account.
Kept a copy in my Dropbox as well.

It won't take me as long next time. Saved a stamp.

I got seperate email confirmations on the 24th that the bills scheduled to
be paid on the 25th were being processed, no further action required.

I also got an email from them yesterday that they were now ready to do
what I'd tried before but wasn't available yet. It says I can now scan
checks for deposit and upload the copy and not have to send in the
checks by mail. Not really a big deal I guess since they already provide
free deposit slips and postage paid envelopes to mail in deposits. Seems
really cool anyway and no danger of deposits getting lost in the mail.
Don't think we've ever had that happen though.
