THE SERVICE MAN CHECKED MINE LAST WEEK AND SAID IT WAS BONE DRY. SOMEONE IS COMING TO CHECK FOR LEAKAGE SOON. HE INTIMATED THAT I WAS CLOSE TO NEEDING A NEW SYSTEM. I'LL TELL HIM TO FIND AND REPAIR THE LEAK FIRST.

They almost always explain it like you need a new one, they teach a little salesmanship into each technician (mechanic). Tell him to find and fix the leak. If he has to have someone else come to do that he doesn't know jack shit. Probably just a salesman anyway. A brand new one with a brand new install can leak or start to leak.
I've been told at least a hundred times that I needed a new one. I use a company now that I haven't caught misinforming me to try and sell me one. You can tell him how old you are and that you're not interested in paying a lot of money for a new one now to save energy that would take years to pay you back.
