Been cursing Turbotax for years.  Saw an article in PCMag
The Best Tax Software for 2014

The editor's choice for 2013 taxes is TaxACT and it's deluxe
version is just $17.95 direct.  I might just give it a try this year,
I paid almost $80 to TurboTax last year and still wasn't happy
with it.

Let me know how it goes.I used Turbo again and it was fine. I like that it can pull in a lot of the redundant stuff from last year. Ours was only $40 though.

TaxACT is about the same as TurboTax.  Took awhile to figure
out that you had to click the "Close Form" button to close a
form you're working on with automatic saving of what you'd
done.

Still struggled coming up with all the numbers.  Now I'm going to
try it all over again.  Came out too high.  Maybe try TurboTax
tomorrow and see what it comes up with.  So far it says out
income was $63.900 for the year with my social security
added 'cause it was so high.  Ma earned about $3,800.  Like
Turbo, it runs you through a whole set of questions every
time you make just one little change.

TaxACT did let me download the income tax form with
everything filled in but had a watermark.  It would be easy to
just copy that into a form.  The Deluxe version of TA that I'm
using has all the forms accepted by the IRS so they don't bump
up the price for more unusual forms like TT does.

Not sure why you couldn't just use the free version but we can't.

PS:
I had saved last years tax return from TurboTax as a PDF file
and TaxACT accepted it and filled in part of the new form but
made me put in the birth years again.

Forgot to mention, I poked around and found something I
never saw on Turbotax. It informed me that I could have
made $32, 000 more before going out of the 15% bracket.

I deeply regret not taking advantage of that and getting at
least $30,000 more profit off the books at 15%. They'd
already added my social security to the taxable stage. If we
go over again they'll tax mine and Honey's Social Security.
