PostSubject: The New Asus eeePC Purchase   Mon May 25, 2009 12:14 pm

Yesterday morning Helen went to buy a netbook at Best Buy, suckered in and took one already
"geek squaded" where they were supposed to take the junk the factory put on the machine off
so it could be enjoyed. I do that myself with"decrapifier" but they'd already worked on it and
failed and it wouldn't get on the internet wirelessly when she brought it home.

She took it back and got a geek right there at the counter and he tried repeatedly and he
couldn't get online and told her it had to go to the back and would be ready in about a half
hour.

She went there for the third time about an hour later and picked it up and brought it home.
It could get on the internet and I downloaded and installed Avira antivirus then began to
assess it and found it only had 16 gigs storage instead of the 160 advertised. She called them
and they promised to save her one of the ones on sale with 160 gig hard drive.

She left to go to Best Buy for the fourth time and swap it this morning but hasn't come home yet.
We'll see.

PS: 1:30 PM
She's back with it, we had company but I've got it charging and it said 160 gig hard drive on the
box. Yay, if it works and it's supposed to have been geek squaded so it's supposed to.

Yes it is what it was supposed to be. I haven't done anything to it today but I made an image
yesterday that will put it back the way it was at the time I took the image. I'm going to hook
up an external hard drive and save a copy of that image later this afternoon.
It's awfully small. I took a desktop screenshot using the onboard keyboard.
I didn't think I had a print screen key but Kevin told me where it is as a secondary function of
a key and I have to hold another key when I do it to make it work.
Zimmy told me where the other key (FN) is.

Here's the first screenshot but you have to scroll down to the bottom picture to get an idea what
it really looks like.

It's for Helen of course but she doesn't know anything about computers. I wonder if it would be
out of order to set it up to dual boot with the free for one year Windows 7 RC. I don't know if
she would even notice the difference but she'd have bragging rights and amaze her friends.
What do you think?

Not sure anything to do with computers would amaze Ma's friends.

Does the on screen keyboard always stay on the desktop??

Ma hear back yet about Vegas?

Onscreen keyboard stays on until you close it, you have it to. I had to hunt it down to turn it on,
It's in Start>Programs>Accessoried>Ease of Access in Vista, probably somewhere around the
same place in XP. I don't remember for sure in XP now but if you know it's there you can hunt
and find it.

Kevin helped me figure out how to take a screenshot without the onboard keyboard now though.
Top right, second key left is the INS key and it has Prt Sc on the bottom of it, it's blue though and
doesn't really show up with that color. There's a FN key, left bottom second right, between the
Control key and the Windows key and you have to hold it down while you press the INS/Prt Sc
key to take the screenshot. Kinda weird but it's there.

Helen's friends know something about computers, they have to use them everyday at work and
have been. They don't know much more than how to do what they have to do though. Cindy's
the one I gave the old HP machine to that was identical to the one you had.

It looks like the trip is on, they let Cindy checkout a laptop so she can work some from
Las Vegas. Cindy may have been the one that got the ok pushed through for the trip
when she did that.
