PostSubject: Mom's Computer is on the Eagle's Nest   Tue Aug 18, 2009 9:07 pm

It came early evening but I've been so busy helping Curly and helping Helen.
I think we got the credits she needs registered online, 5 different ones.

It's still in the box and the box is in the living room. I want to take my time so I'll
start with it in the morning. I'm pretty sure this will be a good machine for Mom.
I'll know more AM.

6:57 AM 8/19/2009
It's got a little plastic hand strap coming up out of the box like a suitcase. When I
pick it up by that it feels heavy. I weighed it this morning and it's 15.9 pounds
and that's not really heavy at all.. I'm gonna open it up now.

It's small.   My wife was sitting out on the back screened porch drinking coffee and I carried it out and set it on the table there and showed it to her.   She said, "That's big".   I'm always disappointed when I show her something.   Anyway we got it straightened out that it's not a notebook and she agreed it was a small computer.   It's the smallest tower I've ever seen but I did have an old Compaq that wasn't a tower that was about the same size.

No problem, I shouldn't have much trouble at all.
I've got two screenshots online now, I thought it was the first two I took but I'm
pretty sure the first thing I had to deal with was "Norton" that wouldn't close.
It also won't let you on the internet until you sign up to install it but I got rid of
if. Still haven't been on the internet with it though.

I can do better than that now. Here's a plain page with the first 5 screenshots.
I shrunk them down some so they'd fit on a page.

The pages look great. I don't know what all the things you did were about, but don't guess I need to.
I hope everything goes O.K.
Did you get the dollars I sent? If you didn't, I had them insured.

Yeah, I got the dollars, sorry I didn't mention it and thank you.
I'm getting pretty forgetful and I have been busy.

It's just the things you need to do to set up a new computer now.
No normal person could ever do it right. It's took me years to teach
myself. I haven't got back to it yet today but I'll give you a hint.
I did successfully remove the Norton completely without a trace.
If you can even get in and get it to install it leaves stuff hid all over
and it takes a long time to hunt down what all it saved about you and
delete it so it's completely gone. I don't even go into the registry and
try to remove everything there myself. I should have another page on it ready
tonight or tomorrow. This isn't one of the really bad ones like Hewlett Packard.
I'm really liking it and think you'll enjoy it when you get it.

Looks like a good one Thump and I'm sure you will thoroughly de "corporatize" it! You might want to throw Granny some music on there.. That USB I gave you had alot of good old country songs on it.

Yeah, I figured I'd put some on, hope I don't forget. I'll try not to use up the whole
hard drive though. I'm really getting behind since it's storming all the time now.
Helen bought me a UPS last weekend but it started beeping when I plugged both
computes into it at once. I asked what made it do that and Keven said it didn't
have enough watts if I only paid $29.99 for it. I checked and it only had 255 watts.
It started beeping yesterday with just this one hooked up. I'm sure it would run
two computers like Mom's new one though. It hardly uses any at all. This main
one was just using too much.

I moved a copy of the old pictures she sent me, I meant to get them all in bitmap
but it changed and I didn't notice so after about three the rest are jpg. Oh well,
good enough to look at, there's no discernable difference on a monitor anyway.

I copied over the songs I have and the ones Rock gave me and that's all I have
without ripping some. Mine are mostly old though.

Storm coming so I shut it down and unplugged it for today. 'Bout done.
