PostSubject: Poison Things   Sat Sep 19, 2009 11:28 am

We've had lot's of brown widow spiders out back and on the screenroom with
a few black widoes thrown in here and there. Helen's been trying to get rid of
them but the poison she's using says it doesn't kill them so she cleaned up all
the junk so she can mostly get to them and most are gone now.

She started cleaning off the front porch a couple of days ago and pulled up
the moldy long cushion on the couch out there and there was a snake coiled
up under there. Curly knocked hell out of it and threw it out in the front
yard. Diane said it was a pygmy rattler but I doubted it, someone always
claims any snake is poison. Her and Helen went over and asked Brad and he
came over and looked at it and told them yes it was a pygmy rattler and threw it
across the road in the thicket next to Jo's place. Helen and I looked up pygmy
rattlers on the internet and one of the pictures was it to a T. Oh well.

Then yesterday Diane was pressure cleaning our front porch and Curly came over
and they ran across a scorpian and Curly killed it I reckon, I didn't see the
scorpian myself.

It sounds dangerous down there. Of course, I've probably got a lot of things around too.
I have to spray for fleas a couple of times a year. They can really bite.(me especially).

Good grief..Spiders, and Snakes, and Bears, oh my! (A little Wizard of Oz plagery).
I wonder how long the snake lived there? It had to come out daily for food and water but hadn't been seen before? Not sure I've heard of a brown widow..brown recluse maybe?

Pygmy rattlers are reclusive and try to hide from people. Probably didn't come out
in the day, probably just at night.

Brown widow spiders are much more prevalent and much more poisonous but get
little notice. Shaped exactly like a black widow but is a bland brown color and
the marking on their belly doesn't look so much like an hourglass.

Speaking of the bears, a small one was sited a week or so ago and like I said, there
was a large one nearby that was seen later. Brad was over in the thicket next to
Jo's last week and said he heard something make a low growling noise, said he's
not going back.

The new neighbors behind that 5 foot fence said there was a large pile of excrement
out in their back yard and it wasn't from a dog.

Helen's reading the forums about every morning now and came in and wanted
credit for telling me it was a pygmy rattler before Diane came over. Seems
like she did but I just didn't pay any attention.
I put Helen a link on the start page I made for her so she could see it easily on
The little netbook screen. Helen's Home Page
